What exactly is Direct Primary Care?

Direct Primary Care, or DPC, is a new way of getting health care that emphasizes the patient-doctor relationship, pricing transparency and accessibility. The patient or employer pays a flat monthly fee directly to the practice for most routine, preventive and acute care visits.

DPC clinics do not bill insurance for your visit (this is a major difference between DPC and concierge clinics), meaning no co-pays or surprise bills in the mail.

You can certainly use any health insurance that you have to pay for any labs, xrays, specialist visits, or other needs.
DPC practices value time with their patients over time spent on paperwork for insurance companies. This means more time with your doctor and it is much easier to contact the clinic for any needs you have, often with same-day or next-day appointments.

What is included in the membership fee?
All routine visits, sick/ injury visits, women’s health visits, well-child visits, point-of-care testing (urinalysis, strep tests, flu tests, EKGs, etc) are all included in the membership. The monthly price is the same whether you come in 4 times that month or not at all.

There are some extra costs not included in the membership fee, including any blood work, more extensive procedures (such as stitches, IV infusions, pellet insertions) or medications you purchase from the clinic.

How can Honest Family Medicine save me (or my business) money?

Honest Family Medicine, like many other DPCs, has negotiated significantly discounted prices for lab work (often cheaper than with insurance!). We also have a healthy stock of common medications and supplements at discounted prices as well. Our clinic has more time to spend with our patients, which means we only refer to a specialist when absolutely needed, and not just because we don’t have the time to address a complicated issue. Along the same lines, it is not common for our patients to need to use an urgent care facility or to go the ER (on average, DPC patients utilize urgent cares and emergency rooms up to 50% less than non-DPC patients).

Do you require vaccinations to be a member of your clinic?
No, Honest Family Medicine does not require vaccines to be enrolled in the clinic. We wish to be a reliable and trustworthy resource for you for any medication or vaccination questions you may have, but overall, we believe in patient autonomy once all of the information has been given. We officially recommend (most) vaccinations to keep our general population safe and tomaintain herd immunity against some dangerous infections, but as long as you are informed of the risks, what you do with your body is your decision. You still deserve quality healthcare without judgement!
Do you work with employers?

Yes! Enrolling with a DPC clinic such as Honest Family Medicine is a fantastic way for business owners to provide health benefits for their employees in a comprehensive and affordable way. While DPC enrollment is NOT insurance, we can still save employers a lot of money on healthcare costs to provide excellent healthcare for their employees, thus improving retention and employee satisfaction. Please contact us to learn more.
As a business owner, if you are looking for a more affordable insurance option for your employees and/or family that COMPLEMENTS the benefits of the DPC model , we invite you to reach out Big River Benefits, the local expert in this area. Check out: https://www.bigriverbenefits.com/

Can I use an HSA or FSA account to pay for my membership?

Yes, many people use their HSA or FSA cards to pay for their membership, although it does depend on the individual company to approve it. If they do not allow you to use your FSA or HSA to pay for the membership, you can certainly use it for other costs, such as medications, supplements, blood work, and more.
According to H.R.1 (The One Big Beautiful Bill Act), as of January, 2026, more people will be eligible for the tax-advantaged HSA account AND it will be a government-sanctioned way to pay for your DPC membership as well (a big win for DPC and DPC patients!).

Do I need health insurance if I am enrolled with Honest Family Medicine?

It is highly advisable to have a high-deductible, catastrophic or healthshare plan to complement your DPC membership in case of emergencies or needs that are beyond the scope of our clinic. We recommend you reach out to Andrew Jenkins at Big River Benefits (www.bigriverbenefits.com) to help you decide the best fit for you!

Do you take care of children?

Yes! We care for patients of all ages, from newborn to geriatric! This is the best part about being a Family Medicine doctor! We believe that comprehensive care for the whole family is incredibly important and valuable to the wellness of the household. Please note: Enrollment of a child requires at least one parent/ guardian.

Do you require contracts?

No, we don’t require you to sign a contract. We want you to enjoy being a patient and Honest Family Medicine. If, at some point, you feel that it is no longer a good fit, we welcome your feedback but would never force to stay with our clinic.  Please note, we do require a 30-day notice prior to ending your membership.

What if I have an issue after-hours?

Upon enrollment, you will have the direct cell phone number of your provider to contact them during the day or after hours. We do request you respect our 8am to 8pm policy, but we are here for you!

I joined the waitlist- now what?

As soon as we feel we can accomodate new members to the clinic while maintaining our standards of high-quality care and excellent availability, we will reach out to people on the waitlist by email as well as phone (call, voicemail). Typical wait time is 3 months, however our newest teammember, Tabitha, is actively reaching out to individuals on the list!

Do you care for patients with Medicare?

Yes, we do! We cannot bill Medicare for our services, so those with Medicare coverage will be asked to sign acknowledgement of this, but you can use your Medicare coverage for medications, lab studies, specialist visits, etc.

What is functional medicine?

Functional medicine involves looking at the root cause of an issue and addressing the problem using lifestyle, supplements, diet and sometimes medications. Functional medicine utilizes specialized testing options not typically ordered by primary care providers, such as stool tests, hair tests, mold tests, comprehensive hormone tests and more.

Please note, there is an extra charge beyond the DPC membership payment. We offer this service for individuals 16 and older.
